Hispano Chamber Supports Students through College Scholarships

The Hispano Chamber of Commerce de Las Cruces Education Committee, in keeping with its tradition in serving the community, will offer a new college scholarship program.

These scholarships are for graduating seniors from the high schools serving the Doña Ana County who are seeking a college degree at either DACC or NMSU. Students must earn their high school diploma no earlier than May 2013.

Scholarship recipients are selected on a number of criteria:
• Academic record
• Potential to succeed
• Leadership
• Participation in community activities
• Honors
• Work experience

Dr. Georgia Lane, Education Committee Chair, is very excited about this new initiative. “It is our desire to help ensure the success of the students in our community,” said Dr. Lane. “Their success depends on the commitment of their parents, teachers, administrators and the community. It takes a village.”

For more information on how to apply for this scholarship, contact your high school counselor or The Hispano Chamber at 524-8900. The deadline to apply is April 30, 2013.

Junior Amigo Leadership Day

The second annual Junior Leadership Day was held on Saturday, April 20th.    The Junior Amigos spent a fun filled day learning about leadership and the impact one can make in their community.  The students engaged in interactive team building exercises.  Special guest Mayor Ken Miyagishima spent some time with the students giving them to the opportunity interact and ask questions.  Not only did they enjoy their day, but they developed a community-wide project to be implemented in October.  We are proud to be working with such a dynamic group of future leaders.
